CSS65 skimmer not produeing foam anymore?
I baught the skimmer a couple of months ago and have it running as a HOB. It was working decent and produeing some dark wet skimmate but for the past few weeks it doesnt really seem to foam consistantly. The bubbles seem to just fizz like a well shaken soda but doesnt create a frothy foam. Im buying a used remora pro with a mag3 for 100 bucks on the 1st but still want to know what is going on with this one. I havnt changed anything in the tank other then introduce a powerhead to the tank but it was still working after I put the powerhead in the tank (with a little more tuneing of course.) The thing I hate most with this skimmer is the constant adjustment that is needed which is one of the biggest reasons im getting the remora so I can use the overflow prefilter.

Blow into the air intake & see if it's clogged.

Its not clogged and i regularly put about 5cc of hot water through the air tube to keep salt and calium build up from clogging it and the skimmer from overflowing. I dont get it, it has the same amount of bubbles it seems it just doesnt foam. Im thinking its a water chemistry thing maybe but i havnt changed anything. No oils in the tank and no new media or additives, its just fizzing. It still produced gunk but intead of it faoming the gunk out it kinda splashes and it collect on the lid and the top of the inside of the tube. I also top of my water dailey so i dont have more then 1/4" inch of evaporation. I have heard mixed reviews with this skimmer but most were adjustment and overflow issues not that it doesnt produce foam.

Can you adjust the lever of the bubbles in the neck?

Yah, I can raise and lower the bubbles just like normal but it has no effect on the foam output. I have lowered it and raised it but its just fizzeing. I have came up with 2 conclusions one being there isnt that much gunk to make it foam up or there are oils somehow in my system causeing it to go through constant break in cycles.

Remora pro is a much better skimmer than the CSS65 when running HOB, good deal for $100 too. I ran a mag3 on my remora pro, it worked well, but really worked much better with a mag5.
As for the CSS65, I bet if you were to take the pump out, clean the air line, venturi, and input lines you will find a blockage somewhere, it should never just fizz without a blockage.

Do they make a overflow for the mag5?

mag 3/5/7 are all the same size, bonus!
If it comes with mag3 try it out and see what you think before upgrading, if not get a mag5
