What catfish is this?!

Post by Aquarist »

I have had him 7-8 years. Now this is him in a 10g tank*overstocked* I dont have a new video of him. But hes now in a 45g tall with 6 tiger barbs and two platys :) Video of him in the 10g: http://s935.photobucket.com/albums/ad19 ... Thecat.mp4

Thanks. My LFS said hes either an upside down cat*asian* or a featherfin synodontis.

Yes, it's a synodontis of some kind, but it's impossible to say which from the video. There are an awful lot of synodontises, and the quality of the video isn't good enough to see which one it is. Can you get a better pic? I don't know my synodontises, so someone else must get a right identification. :D

After you logged out of chat the other night, I found this website - it has a lot of catfish on it, and a picture ID log... this is the link to the A's, you can select the letters through the alphabet across the top.

There are at leat three upside down Synodontid catfish. I currently keep only the largest of those, Brachysynodts batensoda, but have kept the other two, mostly the smallest one - which is an excellent tank fish. Those are not schoolers, but do much, much better with conspciefics in the tank. Otherwise they tend to be rather bashful, or frightened.
