how do I tell if my Puffer is a Tetraodon Nigrifilis or Tetraodon nigroviridis?
Here is a photo, the LPS said he would get 3'' and they had him in fesh water.

That is your basic GSP (Green Spotted puffer), or Tetraodon nigroviridis. He will grow to be 6" when mature. They need mid to high brackish conditions and some people keep them in marine tanks. Definitely not a freshwater puffer, although most LFS's keep them in fresh, more for their sake than the puffers.
Beautiful specimen though, is he yours now?

I've just checked my Aqualog book, nothing even close to nigrifilis.

This is exactly what this site calls them - no wonder so many people get the wrong advice!

Well if it ain't in my Aqualog book, then I would doubt it's validity. And how about the other info for the GSP on that site -- minimum tank size 10 gallons? Size of puffer only 3.25" ! Ha!

yes, this is why I did not know which one it was. But Apparently from what I've come across online that site's info on that article is wrong.
Thanks every one!

i emailed the guy earlier today and he fixed it and was very appreciative of the correct advice and said that he relies on the general public to note his errors and to source where you got your info and he will correct anything

Sounds like a sensible guy - good on him (& you for letting him know the error).
