Good filter for 55 gallon tank?

Post by thenewpufferintown »

i'm hopefully in the process of buying a used 55 gallon tank that comes with a Penguin 330 filter. I was wondering if it was a decent enough filter?

Looks like it pumps 350 gallons per hour. As a minimum you want to be able to turn the whole tank over 10 times an hour. You will need atleast 200 more GPH.

55x10=550
turnover rate=10x
gph needed: 550
currently has: 350
needs: 200 extra.

350+200=550=10x/hour turnover.

I would go with a AC110. I used 2 50's on my 33 when it was FW and BW and i have moved one over to add to the AC110 thats on my 55.
