Scared porcupine?

I didn't want to post in the hospital section as I'm not sure my puffer is ill. I found a nice chipper porcupine Thursday and brought him home. He was stressed after sitting in a jam for an hour but I acclimated him and he seemed to be doing well. That was Thursday, I fed him yesterday morning and this morning and he accepted his krill like a champ (but he snubbed the clam I offered him). My concern is that he spends all day hiding in a small cave....and comes out when the lights go off, is this normal? just settling in maybe? Also I saw no signs of disease on the fish.

When I go diving, the only tine I see porcs are at night. Go figure--they have spines, puff up into a spikey ball & are poisonous. What to they have to be shy about??? Make sure he has plenty of caves & hidey-holes. When they know there's lots of places to retreat to, they tend to stay out more. Once he figures he has no predators to hide from, he should stay out more & be more personable.

Get your puffer off krill ASAP, it will give him lockjaw.

Thanks for the reply, I figured the reclusive behavior could deff be part of him "settleing in" to the new tank. He has several nice little caves to hide in so I guess just some time is in order.

Definityly get him off krill. My puffer took weeks to really warm up to me. I'm sure yours will be alright.

Ok I fed him a market shrimp yesterday and packed it full of crushed Danichi Krill Ultima pellets....he did not seem too enthusiastic about it but he ate it. He still hides all day and only comes out after dark but time will tell. I guess I'm going to try and get him to eat some clam later, this time with garlic. Also I was curious as to why krill causes lock jaw?

Thanks Interesting read, I tossed my frozen krill in favor of squid, market shrimp and pemysis shrimp. I fed my clown a couple Danichi pellets today and the puffer seemed almost intrested, he sucked one in, crushed it and spit most of it out, but maybe he will take to some high quality pellets!
