It has nothing to do with quality, it's just a personal difference. Some people are white while others are black or brown or yellow etc. We're all the same, we just look a bit different ;)

There's also a very large possibility that many of the fish sold as GSPs are either morphs of the same species or are similar but different species. I don't know much about it but if you're interested I'm sure someone else could expand on that :)
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Just looks like a different pattern. Kinda like how cows have different patterns, doesn't mean each is a new species. :)

Second flutters and lil swimz post. I wouldnt add another in a 65 as someone already said. Unless your going to upgrade. Heres an adult gsp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcXKub0qWZs

They look tiny when younger. But they get absolutely enormous!

I think the differences are just evolutionary differences among different groups of GSPs coming from several different places/rivers. Different pattens camouflage (defense mechanism) better in different places. Natural selection at its finest :)

But I would not get one more in that 65 gallon..

The markings on the two puffs you have I associate with faster growth..get big really fast. (IMO) They also seem to prefer lower salt levels, but I cannot prove that..

Hi lucf20 I see you are from Ottawa, Kingston here. Anyhow as purplecandle pointed out unless you are willing to upgrade your 65 gallon is good for just the two you have now,I wouldn't be adding another one.

My Puffers: I am my own puffer. I do not possess a "name" in any sense a person would find comprehensible. My identity to another of my kind is not even individual as you understand it; in the semiotics of puffer fish interaction, indices are the only connection between the signifier and the signified - how does a consciousness working as described have a place for a name? I am identified by my bulk, territory, hormone releases (including for breeding), as well as my current body language.
Location (country): I prefer not to be too specific on such a detail. A puffer must be careful.
My kind are well known to be exported from the tropics of Asia to locations across the globe.
Location: Consider - I may be in your very aquarium right now!

My spot patterns do not determine my "quality," they vary quite a bit between us by our nature.

Evolution is a far cry from the harsh, demanding judge of fitness your Discovery and Animal Planet channels portray: The truth is that in nature, anything that works well enough to keep one alive is passed on. As it so happens, any variety of spots are equally adaptive, ensuring quite the variety.

Yeah, that is natural selection and evolution, specifically fitness..

Now that GSPs are being bread in captivity, I would assume we're going to see some selective breeding in the near future or our children's future.

I agree...probably breed them to be/stay small..more marketable that way...but I suppose that is better than taking them from the wild...:(
