Brackish Puffer from Eastern India B

Post by Channabarca »

The specimen featured here is 10 cm and collected from the Matla river near Jharkali, South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal State, India. The waters here are very brackish and later I will give the salinity levels at the collection zone. I have seen in the past where I had kept several specimens of the Yellow Belly in my first thread and for these the former does far better in fw tanks with a little salt added whereas the latter (let's call it Ashy Face) needs a higher salinity content and refuse food if water conditions are not right.

I have googled for an id and the best I could match with this is Arothron immaculatus. Friends please do assist.

Yes, it is a young Arothron . You probably caught it while it was visiting BW but really is a marine fish.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

A. immaculatus is the right ID. Try a picture where the tail is open.

Yes it matches.

A few more pics of the same specimen but just cannot get a shot with the tail open. As Banjohead had shot this in a phototank maybe the puffer's way to be startled was to keep it's tail folded akin to a scared dog's tail between it's legs
