Well, the gravel will be probably not used once I get it home. IDK what I'm going to do with it... the tank is not up and running, but I don't think the gravel is still inside of the tank either. I guess we'll see, and I could always email him and ask. I have already purchased sand to put in - so going to stay away from rocks and gravel, aside from my large river stones in my tank now... I have a large pickle jar to 'upgrade' vicious's 'bed'... the large stones, and whatever plants I can haul over. I'm putting extra sponges in my filter right now, so I can put them in the filters that come with the new tank. I have a feeling I will need to upgrade those in the near future, but I'm not exactly sure what kind they are yet...

My boyfriend is miffy about this 'little fish' going in a huge tank all alone, so I'd like to get some kind of tank mate that might be tolerated - not too expensive of course, because I don't want to be out TOO much if he goes crunchy... My little snails are breeding like crazy, I can't wait until they get BIGGER... I'm halfway tempted to just try moving a ton of tiny ones into the new tank ASAP (once it's decorated and ready that is) so they can hide and maybe have a start.. I should have a bit of algae from the glass topper on my current tank to 'hide' in the new tank to feed them for a day or so (while things completely settle/cycle)

I'm going to see if I can round up a few more hands to help move this stuff, plus I'll have the guy selling it there to help load it up. Also, once I get home my boyfriend can help unload (won't he be just happy about that? LOL) I think once he sees it, and all that he'll be better about it. He's afraid I'm getting some outrageous sized tank (he got out the tape measure and was mapping out scenarios on the floor and such...) and I told him it wouldn't even stick out quite as far as the counters in the kitchen, and wouldn't quite be the length of the wall I'm putting it on... (52" wall, counter/cupboards on opposite side of the wall in the kitchen)...

If need be, (don't tell him) I'm looking to pick up a couple Lbrackets to secure the stand back against the wall - so it doesn't tip forward... good idea?

I tried a borneo sucker, since they stay small, kind of flat and blend with the substrate I had. No large fanning fins to be potato chips... he cost me $7 and lasted a whole three minutes.

I've tried a few other assorted little fish, only one managed to escape him for more than 7 days. I know Vicious is in a small tank, and I think I attribute the small space to his ability to easily catch them - not that far to run... or swim...

I know it does look grim on the 'tankmate front' but unless it's a bunch of worms, he sees everything as food it seems.

I know you have mates with Filbert, any suggestions?

1st animal I put with Filbert was a soft-shell turtle & he "scalloped" the entire back end of his shell & a large pleco he entirely left alone. Those were in a 55g. When Filbert got moved into the 125g, the pleco moved with him.

I am very happy for you in finding a good tank for Vicious. I don't think I'd try anything alive with Obie, he'd eat it as soon as it hit the water!

Woot, the guy selling the tank said the gravel is already in buckets - So no need to worry about that. He didn't say anything about wanting to keep the buckets, so I will grab a few buckets (return them if I don't use them) so that I can have some place for the gravel if he decides he wants to keep his buckets. I doubt he's too worried about that though.

you will need a full sized pickup truck. I completely filled the back of the dodge that i was borrowing. tank, stand, sump, light, rocks... yeah. me and a friend managed to get it into my house... XD

My dad (and hopefully sister) are going with me - plus I'll have the guy there to help load... my boyfriend will be here to help unload. We'll be taking my grandpa's big pickup truck, blankets for padding (under and around tank and stand) and ties to secure everything down. I'm sure - no question I'll be filling the bed up!

I have a theory:

My fahaka is repulsed by worms. Is it something he can 'taste' when he gets close? or 'smells'? I'm just curious because if there is a kind of 'eel-like' fish that I could put in the tank (maybe similar to a ropefish) maybe he'll see it as a worm and not bother it? Maybe some kind of Dojo Loach, or Kuhlis?

Was just a thought- I'd love some feedback!

haha! I have a 20" fire eel with my Fahaka. they are buddies.. especially right now since i tore it apart to clean... I had one incident where the fire eel actually tried to eat Dib. he bit an inch of his tail, and drug Dib everywhere. After that, dib bit the eels tail. But no other aggression towards each other. They both eat earthworms, and now they even "cuddle" together.
