It is also theorised that non planetary objects such as asteroids, meteors, and comets act as polinashion devices spreading micro organism around from planet to planet seeding them with micro organisms needed to start live on a planet that is capable of supporting it. (All by chance and takeing millions of years of luck to accomplish this but it is a valide theory)

yep that is where our bacteria theory came from. Simply because you have this nice rock floating in the shy in a far outer rim somewhere and "BOOM" it explodes with life within a a few million years.

If I remember it was coined nicely in the bible on some page (I can't remember) but it went you sow seeds and they fall on unfertile ground and died, some were over taken by weeds and some flourished...

The fact that the original bacterial colony originated somewhere else puts that statement into perspective. Sure there is life elsewhere .. intelligent life (as we know it) .. that is dubious.

My primary question is: how did that initial bacterial come to this planet? Did a star go super nova and demolish a life bearing planet? Did an ancient race know they were doomed and send out huge clusters of bacteria to float all over the place and we were just lucky?

Obviously unanswerable but interesting given our history and the explosions of intelligence demonstrated every few thousand years.

Well we do get rocks from Mars arriving here on earth because they've been blasted out of the martian atmosphere by another meteorite impact there.

Must be quite common judging by the number of craters in various things in this one solar system.

You remember the 'Martian bacteria' controversy?

I couldn't really comment because the only 'fossilized' bacteria I've seen is in doing SEM work on human plaque and you can see rods there. I just couldn't say for sure that the 'martian' bacteria weren't just funny shaped lumps of rock

Wow, was a lot to catch up on since I've been busy lately...

LGP, I'm kind of a South Park gal, but I never bought the seasons and I don't get to see them due to sucky channel selection... or time to watch it even! However, I do enjoy South Park The sea-monkeys were really just something that popped in my mind.

As for the conversations about graveyards and such - I live next to one. It's a really old one, and my daughter tells stories about various people, and I've actually found their names on headstones near my home in the graveyard. (Such as, Lucy - whose grave is about 30 feet from my bedroom.) It is unknown where some of these bodies really are, as my boyfriend recently was weed-eating and trimming, and found a strange green thing sticking out of the ground. He pulled on it, and it was about the appropriate size to be someone's radius or ulna. (comparable to mine at least.)

She is three, and watches PBS Kids... Somehow, she comes up with stories about men getting their face bit off by alligators, and bad men that went out in the woods (where she said she was hiding) and the men found her, and shot her. She talks about shooting a LOT. Often I find her whispering to herself, if I ask about it she has a new name, a new story about them... 'these guys' (in reference to men in her bedroom??? she was just answering questions when I caught her - not having a whole conversation, but she'd only be saying, "Yes I like my bear. He's a nice bear. No, I don't like mean bears." Later on, my uncle asked her who she talked to - she said she was talking to Joe.

I don't want to say I'm superstitious, but I know I have an overactive imagination (at least that is what I blame it on.) But as I write this, the chills that cross me - and I feel watched... Yea, self induced or in my mind or whatever maybe... but somehow I don't think so.

I've only had a couple of spooky experiences:

Once when I was with a group from Uni at Shepton Mallet in Somerset, UK. Three guys were down one end of one of the bronze age long barrows there and after the eight of us had been looking around the site for a while the three just froze looking at something and them just came up to me and went: drive. I asked them what that was all about but they told me I didn't want to know. Forgot somebodies glasses and had to return at 2am for them!

The other was an experience in 'airsofting' with one game in a disused graveyard and one end of the game site. No church, just the headstones. It looked totally overgrown, neglected and forgotten with headstones leaning at all angles - fallen trees that sort of thing and getting dark. I read as many inscriptions as I had time to look at, mostly a hundred or so years old. I think this was the cemetary for a village that had been destroyed when a major road was put through very close to the site. There's also a plague pit a few tens of metres away, spooky area.

I don't think I'd partake again in there - I didn't know where we were going until I was in there. It is so disrespectful. I just had a huge feeling of sadness in that graveyard.

That's freaky ohyouknow, I'd be scared to live there haha, I can't handle spooky places.
I use to live in a church house (graveyard as our garden basically) and none of us would go to bed alone, I hated that place and I'm so glad we moved.

The location where I live, there used to be a small church as well. The church became condemned and was demolished. The stones have some newer ones, but mostly are of the 'too old to read' category. Also have quite a few that the grounds keeper has piled up by the one main tree, in order to mow (since they no longer stand)... This grave yard is at a crossroads, in which there have been MANY MANY fatal accidents. Across the road from the graveyard, on the other side of the graveyard from us - there used to be a beautiful farm house. A family lived there, and had a little girl about the same age as my daughter. She ran out into the road, and had been run over. The parents of the little girl moved, and nobody would buy the house (or if they did, promptly wanted to sell shortly after). That was about 10 years ago, and that house was since demolished as well. People said it was left haunted by the little girl...

My daughter often whispers - and I've caught her saying things, "but I don't want to scare my mommy," or "that's not nice, let's place nice games."

So IDK... I just hope it's an imaginary friend... and I try to ignore it. She often talks about the crying babies under the table (??) ghosts coming out of the floor, and I'm hoping we find a house soon... but like my boyfriend said - they seem friendly enough... We've been here almost a year without incident...

And it's not the spookiest place I've lived. I used to live in an efficiency apartment in another city (single then, could handle the tiny space) and the laundry room was in the basment. The building was an old nursing home with a psych ward. It dated early enough in history it's documented that they used to use electro shock therapy on the patients that 'needed it' and had many room in the basement that had solid firm doors. The back room (the largest) also had a little back room off of it that led to the back doors - which had a ramp coming out the back of the building. I was told that was where they would prep bodies, and wheel them out after they died. Every night you would hear a squeaky wheel (10:42 p.m., you could time it) going down the main hall, near the nurses station. The cold breezes, and I had even seen the gowned patients. One day, I was doing laundry - was headed back up from the basement and I heard a strange hiss... I looked behind me and saw him standing there. In a bluish gray gown, barefoot, hair disheveled. Just staring at me. I blinked and he was gone. I then asked about the history of the place, and did research at the library to find a lot of this out. Along with the others on my floor, we all timed and tested the squeaking wheel, among other things... We never did make it back to the rooms said to have electro shock therapy, however some really old residents in the area told us stories about their older (now passed) relatives...

I quickly found a new place to live.
