Hi, I have read on another forum that SAP's dont realy care for tank decoration apart from maybe a plant and plenty of open space, but on the profile section of this site it states that they need a heavily decorated tank to keep them amused.
BTW: the autor of the post on the other site is Neale Monks who also posts on this site so a reputable source

A heavily decorated tank is great for them so they can explore and hunt for snails and shrimp. It's very important to keep open space for them as well. You'll want to decorate the back and sides of the tank and leave the front and center area open. Mine loved bowling right through the heavily planted areas looking for things. They also need a very strong current through the open area.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Yeah, i have them with about a 10x turnover so a fairly strong flow, just need to get some silk plants for them to play around in.

Yeah, i have gone the live plants route before, but i want a lower maintenace tank. and with the puffers being messy i find fake plants easyer to clean around

Strongly agree with the setup Flutter described - that is the way I keep SAPs. I do use live plants, but those I use are not high maintenance.
Plenty of puffers are kept in relatively bare tanks. It may make upkeep easier, but it is hardly what is best for the fish long-term. As a group these are intelligent and inquisitive fish. A visually interesting environment has to be better for them long term, and it need not be something that requires excessive maintenance. Their messy eating habits are quite enough to deal with.

+1, good idea for most active-swimming species. I find bare-looking, "low maintenance" tanks to be quite uninteresting to look at. I'm sure the fish find it even more uninteresting to live in.You'll want to decorate the back and sides of the tank and leave the front and center area open.

Got a bunck of silk plants in there they look more happy.
Took some of the bigger rocks out so i can get more access to the substrate to clean it
