Since 2 weeks I've brought home 2 very small cutcutia's.
I had one empty tank so when I saw these little fellows in a to small tank at the LFS I couldn't resist. At home I tested the water they were in and the nitrate test was shocking, the test color was almost black!!!! Quite skinny they were so I started power feeding, feeding them twice a day. They look a lot better now.
The only problem is that I still don't have names for them. So please help find me nice names for the little ones.
Wow Frieda they are small! I get a laugh out of my Cutcutia ("Ted") ... he lays in the cryptocoryne and acts as if I can't see him. He will lay there, one eye peering out at me, and he thinks that he's hidden. When I drop food in he will come out and grab it, but if he thinks I'm looking he will immediately drop the food and retreat back to his hiding spot.
I think they are beautiful puffers. Too bad you don't see them more often at LFS's. My little guy is the same one from when I bought a group of 4 sickly ones at a horrible LFS. The others, one by one, died, but Ted is still going and growing nicely I might add.

Can you tell if they're a pair? How big is the tank? Got pics? Even a with mated pair in a heavily decorated tank, I've seen serious aggression problems, leading to the death of 1 or both puffers.

I have to tell you that when I originally got my 4 (keep in mind they were sick), they all got along very well together, but they did stick to their "territories". Then as I mentioned above, one by one, they died out and left me with only the one (that's Ted that I still have). Well last year I got the bright idea to buy another Cutcutia (I posted about it) and put them together. It did not take long before Ted was beating up on the newer one. I even moved them to a 3-foot tank hoping the bigger space would help, but each time Ted seen the other one, he was onto him. I felt so sorry for him that I ended up putting the newer one in my little crab tank, just to save him from being attacked. I rehomed him soon after that. So, I think you will need to watch your two to make sure you don't have similar problems .... but I have heard that these puffers do not like being with their own kind. Surprisingly I have 2 Oto's in with my Cutcutia and they are doing very well. I think they blend in and he doesn't see them as a threat, or maybe they are just too swift, I don't know.
At the moment they get along very well. At feeding time the smaller one is a bit more agressive then the bigger one.
Don;t know if it's a pair, the are just to small. But I will keep an close eye on them when the grow older.
They live in an heavily planted 35 gallon tank, with a 300gal/h filter.
