i've got 2 gsp's which are in a 55 gallon, tank water is at SG 1.010 amonia-0 nitrite-0 nitrate-20
i've had them for 6 months now and one of them has grown quite a bit but the other one doesn't look like it's grown at all , i did worm them when i first got them ,he hasn't got a sunken belly he looks completely normal to me just small and it's not that he doesn't get enough food as he tends to bully the bigger one and eats plenty.
they were only in the fish shop for about a week until i bought them ,do you think he may be stunted
I also think that some fish are like people, some tall, some big, some small, etc. I've got GSP's that are different sizes even though they were roughly the same size when I got them.
I suppose it's possible that your GSP is stunted. I've got the Congo that only grew a small bit when I got him and has since remained a Mini-miurus.
I do agree that being in that 55-gallon they should have grown quite a bit. I noticed that my GSP's grew a heck of a lot when I moved them to the new bigger tank. In fact, I had two that weren't very big but are now quite large and I think it has everything to do with the bigger tank they are in. The odd part is that the Ceylons, which share the same tank, don't seem to be growing quite as dramatically as the GSP's.
In a case of dominace issue, is the smaller one harmed in terms of health or anything like that?
I'm interesting because it's happening with my 2 F8. One eats and is growing faster than the other. The smaller one seems submissive to the other, allowing the bigger one to eat first (until it's stuffed),and always follows the bigger one's swimming.
I feel the smaller one is not healthy as the bigger one, they both look exactly like PP's 2 GSP pictures where one puffer is bigger than the other.

it's not a dominance issue as it's the smaller one that usually get the food first and often chases the bigger one away, they do get a good variety of foods, mussels, earth worms, cockles, snails, i don't use any vitamins is this something i should be doing ?

One of the things we need to keep in mind is that with using shrimp and mussels, two basics of a puffer's diet, there's the issue of thiaminase. Both shrimp and mussels have thiaminase and if you aren't giving thiamin back into the puffer's diet, it can cause problems.
I'm not saying this is the cause of your problem Dave, just saying this is why it's a good idea to use vitamins, that's all.

Im really beginning to beleive more and more that there are several varients to the GSP. Some that grow better in certain conditions and some that just grow really slow. I wish i had the tanks to do a little experiment with this hypothesis.
