Hypothetical question: which to choose?
Tetraodon duboisi (Reticulated Puffer) VS. Tetraodon pustulatus (Cross River)
The odd ball (specialty fish) guy I like said he is able to obtain both of these.
If you had to choose which would you?
Q2 How would I know that the specimen provided is in fact the one named? Dubosi "Very similar to the T.miurus"; Pustulatus "Specimens offered for sale tends to be misidentified young Fahakas (T. lineatus)"
I don't what to drive there, get a fish and find out it is not the one I was hoping for. I suppose I could put a deposit down and have him hold it, but If I order it I'll be out the deposit ...
Q3 Do either of these require extra special care over and above regular puffer care? The Pufferpedia does not state whether they have teeth vs dental plates etc.. (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)

Depends on what size tank you have for it & how $$$ they cost.

Re: Hypothetical question: which to choose?
I think I'm the only person to choose the duboisi! That's because I've seen a Pustulatus for sale, never seen the duboisi for sale. I also like the description of the duboisi, sounds almost "nice".
And I still say even if there is a "Pustulaka", that would be a very cool thing to own. Personally I have doubts that a Fahaka and a Cross River have actually mated and are producing a cross-breed. I think it's all a myth.

My vote is for the cross river
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Agreed of course. If the Duboisi is available, I'll be ditching the guppies and putting it in the 35 gal. If the Cross River is available I'll re-home the SAPs and it can have the 210. Basicly it all comes down to price. The LFS also had a Mappa (6") for sale @ $145. Don't know if that is high or not.

Re: Hypothetical question: which to choose?
I did not vote - I have never kept either, so either one would be welcome and interesting. But as PP said earlier, it would likely boil down to $ and tank availability when the beast was available.

Re: Hypothetical question: which to choose?
LOL!! no I'm not getting a Mappa. I just want to know if that was a good price. If it is then I know he doesn't inflate the prices too much
