can i feed my dp food from publix?

Post by heartagramette »

Ive called every lfs around anf none of them carry mussels, which i have been told are very nutritional for dps as are clams . First of all is this true? secondly, would it be ok to buy mussels and clams from publix? third, how would i go about feeding it to my dp, cut it up into small peices? suggestions... please and thank u :)

If they are uncooked and frozen then you can always give it a try. If they are fresh market then they would need to be frozen solid first to kill off any nasties that they are carrying. The same rule applies to shrimp which they should love ;)

Well, personally I don't think you'll have much luck but you can try. Just about any human seafood is safe, as long as it is RAW and not seasoned. Freeze it if it is fresh, to kill any nasties, then thaw it out in a little bowl of tank water and see if they'll eat it. Depending on what it is, you can either hold it under water and let them take bites out of it, or cut little pieces off. I think I'd start with holding it though, because if htey don't like it, its a lot easier to take one big chunk out than lots of little pieces.

Oh yeah.. mussels really make your fingers stink.. maybe use a wood skewer like for making shishkabobs. ;)

I use skewers to feed shrimp to Bloat
