tank size ?

Post by xrayjeeper83 »

alright i just found a tank on craigslist for 250. Its 6'x18"x28", is this going to be big enough width wise for a full grown fahaka? It comes with the tank stand and lights for only 250 bucks, seems like a great deal but want to make sure size wise its a good deal

Pufferpedia says 24" inches turning radius, but maybe one who owns one can let us know ;)

That's the size tank Filbert lives in.

My Fahakas were all in 24" deep tanks (4x2x2' or 6x2x2), but I don't have any large tanks 18' deep (front to back),or any tank over ~2' high.

Filbert has had a growth spurt lately & looks like he'd appreciate a bigger tank. Wish i could give it to him. :(

Im not a large puffer expert by all means but 18" seems too small for full grown 18" puffer..even 24" seems small.

Ideally, minimum front to back should be 24". In that case, a 120 tank is preferable to a 125. I know Pufferpunk keeps Filbert in a 125, but she's often said she'd prefer a bigger tank for him, and really, he is on the small side for a Fahaka compared to some of the ones I've seen at the Shedd. I think he fits in there okay, but one grown to the size the Shedd used to have would have gotten stuck trying to turn around in a 125.

Pricewise, yes, good deal especially if it comes with a stand.

Fahaka wise.. not so sure.. you could do better, but its the width front to back that's a problem.
