Hello tirta and welcome to The Puffer Forum. Can you tell us a little bit about the tank/tanks you are keeping your mbu and fahaka in now.

What type of sand is available to you in Indonesia?

The ideal sand is something fine grain but not too fine as it attaches to feces and weighs it down to make it a pain to remove from the tank.
Fahakas like to bury and both will scour the sand blowing it looking for food.

Re: Best sand for mbu and fahaka
I use white silica sand (sand blasting sand) In my Piranha tank, I'm really happy with it so I'm planning on using it for my Fahaka when time comes around.
$12 a 50lb bag in my area, it comes in white or black, though the black is discontinued cause of environmental reasons(so the employees said).

Re: Best sand for mbu and fahaka
Thanks so much for everyone attention, first my fahaka tank was 75x75x50 and my fahaka was about 25cm. My mbu tank was 90x45x45 and my mb was about 18cm long. In Indonesia here as far as i know there is silica sand and volcanic sand . Actually I was planning to move the fish to bigger tank , that's why I'm asking for opinion from this forum . the tank I'm about to use is 150x75x75cm . Very sorry if my english is not correct but I'm trying . Thank you

I use silica sand.
It looks good in the tank, but if I could do it over again I would use a darker coloured gravel.. it would be so much easier for maintenance & i think the fahaka looks better when it's darker..
