~*~FROM RAGS TO RICHES~*~

Post by kilofey »

Millie is my pound puppy. She is chihuahua/italian greyhound. i adopted her about a month ago from the shelter.

When i went to the shelter, i wansnt really looking for a dog, i had planned on getting one eventually but i was more just "shopping around" that day. All the other dogs were jumping, barking, whining ect. when i came to her kennel, i noticed she was the only one trembling with fear, she had her back turned and wouldnt even look at me. she was covered in feces and it was quite obvious: this dog had little to no human interaction. She seriously tugged at my heart strings and i knew i had to get her out of that place. She was just days away from being euthenized, so i took her home.

When i got her home, i immediately began training her and soon learned just how intelligent she was, though she needed a TON of work. She was a fear biter and would bite anyone who was not me. She had severe separation anxiety issues to the point where she was beginning to hurt herself when i would leave. In the short month ive had her, she has now learned 12 tricks, is crate trained, litter box trained while im gone during the day, 90% potty trained to go outside while im home, she LOVES people and other dogs now, the only time she barks is when someone is at the door. she will bark 2 times and that is it, her separation anxiety is basically gone, and she wants nothing more than to make me happy.

I love her to pieces & couldnt ask for a better dog. I know shes been through a lot just seeing what a train wreck she was when i first got her. I feel like shes earned the cooshy life she always wanted, she has her nails painted, a fancy rhinestone collar, 2 HUGE oversized beds (though she prefers to sleep in mine at night), she gets all the toys and treats she could ask for. Shes truely a "rags to riches" story & i thought id share it with everyone at TPF... it goes to show, pound puppies really do make the best dogs. they know where they came from and appreciate the life you can provide for them. if youre thinking about a new doggie... my suggestion is: "shop around" at your local shelter. you never know, you might just find one of the best, most loving, obedient dogs youve ever seen.

I like the pic with the tongue sticking out, always makes me laugh when dogs do that. Well done kilofey for rescuing one of many dogs that need good homes. :)

HEY! Don't insult the dogs!
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.
