betta question

I know how that is Orchidman. You don't wanna really call them idiots straight out to their face. Bout like this guy at a fish store I went to; I mentioned TPF, and he was all going on about how 'forums are just full of people who think they know everything, and wanna just tell you everything you are doing is wrong.' He's misinformed me quite a few times...

So I just avoid that silly conversation, nod my head and smile - and say have a nice day.

my beta is in a 35 gal with 200+ guppies. It is doing well even with an HOB filter. Usually it hangs out in the fake plants until the lights come on (feeding time) then it is a free for all

I've seen the happiness of a betta moving into a 128 liter at my house, after living in a 1 liter at the LFS. WOW! He went swimming and swimming and swimming around, feeling like the world never stopped. But I have experienced one thing. Keeping a betta in a smaller tank (not size fish bowl, I'm not saying that) all by himself, actually has given a longer life of the betta than when I keep one in a large tank with other species. I don't know why, but I've experienced it several times.

Probably because some bettas' personalities aren't suited to community life. I have one who is and one who isn't, and one who I've never tried!

ive heard oto's like to be in groups. But if you have enough of an algea build up i think it would be ok size wise

Otos do MUCH better in groups of 3+. Some bettas won't tolerate tankmates, but otos stand a very good chance of being accepted. Just be sure to wait six months or so for your tank to get super-established - they're delicate little guys that often refuse any food but fresh-off-the-glass algae.

what algae eater can i have then? i to eat algae as it comes? i have a little bit of diatom algae right now, im trying to get rid of it

I have a borneo sucker - IDK how sensitive they are, but I added him to my established 10 gallon tank. He doesn't get more than 1 inch and I think he looks pretty cool.

Yes, I should have used the word "should"! I personally have observed that three is a decent minimum, but that's just my experience. And with schooling fish, the bigger the better.
