new to the puffer forum getting tank ready for my new little gsp.have sailfin molliies in brackish and they love it very energetic little guys/gals so much different from freshwater,little more work but its worth all those little happy fins a flappin

Dont be supriesed when those fins become all shredded......... not saying its a definite but its highly likely. Its been a suggestion that gsps in the wild use fins as a large part of their diet when young. Although alot of people on here have had different results some havnt had any problems and some ate the mollies.

i have sail fin mollies,holy crap thaese fish are crazy my water is about 85 alll the other parametersin spec.ican vary there marine salt i vary from 1.010-1.020- have 2 good power headds that move the water around its a 40 gal talll with a emperor 400 bio wheel they love the bubbles oxygenates the water,need thepump because i have one low in the water and the pressure wont let it just suck normal.

Why so warm? When you vary the SG more than .002/week, you really mess up the biological filtration, keeping the tank uncycled.

Sailfins are from the coast of north carolina all the way through mexico. So there waters dont need to be above 80.

I've some black mollies in with my scats as dithers. Four girls and a bloke - this tank is at 1.006 at the moment. One fish I've never kept before are mollies and sailfin mollies. I bought the black ones this time because they looked in better condition than the available sailfins.

I've a question - are sailfin mollies ok in low end brackish? I know the black (is it P. sphenops?) molly or 'liberty molly' can go into full marine but not sure about the sailfins. I'm no expert on livebearers. Bet the black mollies are good at picking hair algae from LR

I like 'em too much to mix with puffers Feeding them loads of greens. Pacu and these take a fair chunk out of the weekly supply of bunnyrabbit food. Pacu's about, no carrot is safe

They are fine at any salinity level.

I agree any molly can live at any s.g my one sail fin is at .23 sg and is my most active fish out side of her lone surviving baby.........
