Puffer died...tank cleaning?

Post by IluvShoes »

Hi guys,

Recently my beloved Puffer passed away after being very sick with parasites.

He died Friday and was removed from the tank tonight.

There only two snails in the tank right now.

I want to give the tank a good cleaning before I put gold fish in it (I don't have it in me to lose another Puffer again).

I don't want any more fish to get sick though.

What is the best method for cleaning the tank?

My tank was only a week old, it is practically brand new.

I heard I need to get a new filter and bleach everything in the tank.

What is the best method to do so? And can the snails survive in a bowl of water? Can the snails get the parasite too?

Oxyclean works great. Make sure to cycle that tank before adding anything ok.....
Anytime a fish dies it should be removed right away.

That is my excuse at the moment for a complete and total break down :)

I remove everything it dry out rearrange stuff and replace stuff. Especially if I'm not happy with the substrate. An excuse to go shopping and get excited about the hobby after being bummed about the loss.
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...
