Beautiful, complex and discussed here. The marine fish and reef section.

Less of a need for wc's (less salt, less di water, less time). No algae (less time).

Last I checked a skimmer for a 100 gallon tank will cost a couple hundred for a decent one. Won't even get into the costs of the other stuff since they're stupid exspensive too..

Does that clarify? :D
Oh, edit:
No need for live rock (what, people suggest 2xgallons, so 100gallons = 200$ LR)
No need for powerheads since the way you setup the output and the pure massive amount of GPH takes care of all around tank flow.
I suppose if you really wanted to get technical, now I've had mine setup for so long, I never use test kits lol
I check alk and calcium (since I have corals) and that's pretty much it.. the quick dip paper test kits from walmart is all I really use, and a ammonia card that's suctioned to the front of the tank...

And I actually use the 5$ led strips for lighting, working on a write up, but for my 55g tank w/corals I've spent:
460$

Now I get to just sit back and enjoy it :)
i am confused on just about everything here. What kind of decor do you want in a SW tank besides LR? What is replacing the flow of powerheads again? Where can i see your setup? You are saying you are growing coral under $5 LEDs? Can you post a link showing how this process works because i'm not understanding you.

I would take Kung's advice with a tiny grain of salt.

It's cool, I'm used to people talking about being stuck in their ways... :)
here ya go
Thanks for the positive thought though PP, you've proven how much you know, and your willingness to accept change. I'm sure you're still wishing RTR would respond. But the funny thing is, besides all the sarcasm and supposed warnings by experts, I've used this stuff, and it works. All it has shown me, is a better way to take care of a tank, and that many people are just as you are, the dinosaurs walking among us. And ya know what happened to them.
I hate being rude, but your personal attack speaks for itself. I did like this forum, but alas, just like several others, ignorance and unwillingness to learn seems to be key.
The FTS was before the coral, but as you can see from the other pics, well, ya, I must be a newb and nothing works because of various reasons the smart people have pointed out.
Bye! I'll be laughing while you'll be working.

Oh ya, I guess this was one "I got my fish at walmart" story that turned out alright.
Put that in your book.

I'm not angry. He really wrote a book and i'm not trying to read all that to be honest. And to be honest, it only looks like this experiment started two months ago. I see you own your own domain kung. When is the site going up?

Here is a good thread on the right now bacteria system (aka Hiatt Filtration) he is talking about:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1792190

All I have to say is that the methods I suggest to people on here and to my customers is a proven effective system of skimmer, sump, GFO/GAC, and supplements (calc/alk/mag). This method has been time and a again proven to work, for example, look at reefkeeping magazine tank of the month posts, all use that system. I have yet to see an impressive REEF with the right now bacteria system.

I am not even going to comment beyond this, as I have no experience with it, and untill this thread not even given it the time of day.

Deiced for your self.

As for the original thread starter. Dont get turned off to SW tanks due to this thread. I would recommend anyone starting a SW tank to stick with the proven method and not till you understand more try others.

Full Tank Shot & from the ones he posted, I do not see a successful-running reef tank, only one with fake plants & 2 pics of coral frags.
I was looking for something long-term successful, like this:

Oh, well i took it as another meaning. You can look it up on urban dictionary if you want. Both meanings seem to apply here tho. I believe those clay pots can do well in any type of water... lol
