10 gallon stocking

Post by xrayjeeper83 »

Ok so im picking up a 10 gallon tomorrow that Im going to try my luck at raising marbled crayfish, and raising snails. Im thinking of some fish to, would Celebes Rainbow fish get picked off by the crayfish? Looking at pictures I think they will get huge, but I do plan on breeding them for puffer food so I really doubt many if any will get to full adult hood(other then the breeding pair)

If possible keep a bunch of juveniles ... if that breeding pair expire you then have some others ;)
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

I have tried to google these crayfish looking to buy them. Does anyone know a webstore that sells them?

These are easy to find. Try places like plantedaquariumscentral.com and aquabid.com. They're often listed under "marmorkrebs".

These crayfish breed like crazy and you may have a huge population very quickly (with correct conditions) so be prepared for such a stock.

These crayfish, like most other crayfish, are a threat to fish (and snails for that matter) and you should only put them in an aquarium with fish that you are willing to lose. Celebes rainbows are fast but they longer fins which will be easy to get for the crayfish. I'm not going to get into all of the details of compatibility with fish and crayfish, but keep in mind that any crayfish can eat any fish unless that fish eats the crayfish first. That said, sometimes, crazy combinations occur by chance. I've kept pike cichlids with redclaw crayfish without any problems. Would I recommend this to anybody? Never! But it worked with me. My point is, this is a risk, you can try to take it and you might get lucky, but be prepared to lose your fish.
