I've decided for now, my only puffer will be a pea or dwarf puffer simply because I seriously doubt a 75 will fit into my room now. So, this about the construction of this tank for the dwarf.

Here's the current picture:


Plants are:
Myrio Sp.
Java Fern
Flame Moss
Dwarf Hairgrass
Amazon Frogbit

and I'm eventually going to be phasing out the frogbit [meaning giving all of it to my mom because I'm sick of it..lol] and adding ludwigia glandulosa, ludwigia brevipes, bacopa sp., & H.M.

This has 3WPG, but is low tech [I really love high light/low tech tanks!] and the filter is an AquaTech 5-15. Equipment I need to buy is a worm feeder, ammonia alert thing [have a pH one], new bulbs [15W 6500k CF's], & a new filter cartridge...

But I'm excited to see this one's future!

looks good ... only one comment ... get that lead off the intake of the filter. Lead has no long term placement in the fish tank.

Nice ramshorn in there BTW ... maybe you can set up a feeding colony

Yeah, the lead was the only thing I had to hold the prefilter in place to prevent the shrimp from being chopped up if they got sucked up...but I know I need to figure something else out...I'm just being...lazy.

Oh and the red ramshorn died...I found the shrimp eating him...

He's had a rough life from the beginning. I've got enough pond snails though to feed an army of puffers tho! I H-A-T-E pond snails!

Well, if you ever wanted to get rid of some pond snails, I might know of a place that would welcome them with an open tank

"Get the lead out!"

I pulled off the crappy "prefilter" to find one of my shrimp [the bright red lobster on crack looking one] stuck...and of course she swam out when I pulled it up...hopefully she's live!

but anyways, with my riparium stuff I'm not currently using, I found some mesh-like material I didn't use even when I WAS using the riparium...so I decided to cut up a piece and shove it where it gets caught so the filter can't suck it up. Soo...it's not seen AND the shrimp are safe!

Sorry for taking a while to respond...my computer got severely affected by lightning. OH! I go tomorrow for my writing test! Yay! One step closer to my graduation present[getting my tanks done].

Not much change; just growth. Even the BBA looks alittle fuller[and it takes skill to grow that!].




Soon, I plan on buying a bunch of plants for here to finish it up[but will it ever really be finished?] and will send some extra plants & snails to ohyouknow.

In response to my last post, my computer is better then normal now. I completely disassembled it and cleaned it and when I put it back together, no faults at all. [except since my 80GB HD with vista home premium [areo disabled cuz my graphics suck and no AGP slot to advance that] didn't have a jumper, it locked up the DVD/CDRW drive and neither would show up, but I just had to put it where the 40GB[xp home] was and put it where the 80GB was]. Writing test was also simple and I think I got it.

Anyways, my parents agreed to let me get another computer soon[a HP netbook]. I found an awesome deal[298$] even though it comes with XP only and IDT audio[would prefer realtek]. I can deal with that, I think.

You mentioned getting a new filter cartridge. If your meaning one with carbon in it those are looked down on with live plants cause they take out stuff the plants need

What are those floating plants in your tank? Those are cool! I didn't notice them before... I wonder if my fahaka would eat those...

Thanks! The carbon cartridges seem to have no negative affect on my tanks and with the water quality as bad as it is, I'm more worried about the puffer then the plants.

What are those floating plants in your tank? Those are cool! I didn't notice them before... I wonder if my fahaka would eat those...

Amazon frogbit. IDK if the fahaka will eat them, but I've got a 5.5gal full of them. If you like them, I'll be sure to send you those.

My wife and I have a 10g DP tank as well and I was thinking it would break up the light nicely for them. Right now I have a moderately planted tank, mostly java fern which has decided it should spread everywhere, and am looking at getting some more to keep everybody happy. The DPs love the java fern though, they are small enough to swim all through the plant and it makes a great hiding ground for them. Our 2 cherry shrimp couples seem to like it as well, both females have eggs so soon we should have a nice supply of DP food. Good luck on your tank, I love these little guys changing their water last night they were following me and the hose around the entire time. Definitely inquisitive little fellows.

I love my frogbit too! I was planning to phase it out, but I'm really becoming attached to it[like the myrio that all started from 1 tiny, suffering piece back in December of last year].

It's actually kinda funny cuz when my friends came over a day or 2 ago, they said my tank was a SHRIMP tank not a puffer tank. lol Is there really that much of a difference on whether or not I have the puffer or plan to purchase it as soon as I can??? Oh, congrats on your shrimp. I love mine. Are they the ones who follow you around when doing WC's or the puffers? My shrimp seem to insist eating my hand or get sucked in the tubing when I clean the tank.

It's the DPs. They are only about 1/2" at the most right now and they followed me the entire time I had the gravel vacuum in there. I kept looking down at the 5gallon bucket I was draining into to make sure I hadn't accidentally grabbed one. For the most part they seem really healthy and active, but my little girl seems to have IPs the worst and isn't quite the character, but I'm really hoping I can knock out the parasites and have a happy tank.

Today we're going out I need a new plant for my back corner, after I get that in the tank I'll have to put up some pics of ours. I'm pretty happy with what my wife and I have put together and I think we'll be able to have co-existing happy puffers.
