I have a cuttle-fish bone in my snail tank, so that they can get some extra calcium to strengthen their shells.

Re: feeding calcium. powder to feeder snails?
It does not affect your ph. But there are all kind of elements naturally in the wild that we just dont have in a aquarium. The essential elements puts all of that in there including calcium. Is your snail tank fw, brak, marine?

That's a neat idea, it won't go bad underwater right?bigfatfish wrote:I have a cuttle-fish bone in my snail tank, so that they can get some extra calcium to strengthen their shells.

My main tank is freshwater, I don't have a snail tank yet. I just ordered 10 ramshorns yesterday.Miller535 wrote:It does not affect your ph. For fw I am prertty sure that you can just buy liquid calcium and put that it.

Re: feeding calcium. powder to feeder snails?
Oh and if you are planning on breeding snails you have to have calcium in the water for them to develope their shells

Re: feeding calcium. powder to feeder snails?
Mmm, the kent marine product you suggested sounds nice. Has calcium plus extra stuff that may not be present in my water..Um, question tho. The water at my house is hard..8.6 ppm. I use seachem acid buffer to bring in down to neutral. Would just plain conditioned tap water be fine?Miller535 wrote:Oh and if you are planning on breeding snails you have to have calcium in the water for them to develope their shells

Re: feeding calcium. powder to feeder snails?
I keep a cuttlefish bone in my snail tank and in my red crab/shrimp tank too. They are cheap enough and do the same job as some of the more expensive additives.

Re: feeding calcium. powder to feeder snails?
I think conditioned water would be fine. and liquid calcium or kent elements are both cheap. just a couple bucks. the kent 1 tsp treats like 25 gallons and you are only suppose to add it like every couple of weeks

Over here cuttlebone is only a few dollars and is sold in the bird section of pet stores. Is it expensive there?
