If you wont have real plants don't wast money on a double.

I got double cuz I wanted to start real plant tank ( still learning )

I got moon light too, they are not at work yet since I dont know where to place it and how.

I guess you could drill couple holes, but why take a chance

I'm thinking a metal rod across the tank that I could hang the moon light on

so the single fixture would be enough light for the 38 gallon tank? they are on sale and a difference of $10 between the two so i thought i would go that route..
Did yours come with the metal strings to attach to the ceiling?

were you planning on installing the rod to the fixture?

also which bulb would you recommend -marine, life or power?

yes
difference of $10 between the two
Then I would buy double and install only one bulb
Did yours come with the metal strings to attach to the ceiling?
yes, but the light fixture comes with metal arms that spread out
were you planning on installing the rod to the fixture?
I'm working on it right now. I could post pics later on, thats if I'm done

If no real plants I would go with Power

why cant the moon light be stuck to the back or front edge of your ballast.

wasnt sure where the ballast is located at in this fixture. would it be too hot for the leds?

I'd hesitate about buying the double to take one lamp out because the fitting might not actually work with only one lamp - best to check with the manufacturer.

It would be very tempting to buy the double since there's only $10 difference but the more light the more algae but you could reduce the photoperiod to compensate.

If you drill a new light fixture you will ruin the warranty of the fitting.

The colour of the lamps is personal preference really, whatever suits your decor and livestock.

Keep in mind that if you do get the single lamp fixture 1WP(US)G then you could still grow plants in the future but you'd be restricted to low light plants like java fern, java moss, crypts and anubias

Do you mean wiring the LED luminaire to the ballast of the flourescent fixture? LED's cannot be activated by a flourescent ballast, they require a driver unit (integral or external) which would come with the LED fitting.
