I think this guy copied my set up! Probably not but it is uncanny, and I had a similar idea in how to use the stepped portion of my 500 gal for emeresed growth that I was discussing with RTR and was also discussing the idea on APC.

well now that I am working as a landscape office guy I have access to lots of suppliers. I am focusing on the aquatic portion .. and that tank design would allow me to purchase plants at cost and cultivate them

Locally cultured stuff is big now.

Ooooo, you know - I was talkin to my boyfriend (he is a landscaper too) and I asked him if they ever did anything with the aquatic stuff. He said some people come in asking about it - there just isn't much of a demand here (what a shame, bigger demand = opportunity for me!).

On the Shop's property, there is a rather ok pond. There is a possibility for a new expansion for them, but he just said that it might be an idea once the owner passes on his business. Who knows, I guess I have the seed started in his mind, we'll have to see where it goes from there Who knows - I might be able to do enough research to really work my way into that family business (pond expert!)

if you had a choice to purchase plants from Asia vs local ... which would you choose?

We're not talking just regional lilies here (which are good btw), but a larger spectrum Indoor for tropicals and out door for hardy locals LFS' may go with it.

I am not saying this is a viable idea .. but I thought if putting in a 5 gal in the LFS ( we only have one) and selling on consignment.

Well, my LFS has a 50gal tank (I think) that has all of it's live FW plants inside. They have some bamboos, swords - it's not really a great selection - and doesn't look overly attractive as some of the plants I think look really rough. However, that could be simply due to the move - and I think poor lighting. They also have discus in there with them. (I don't know if those do damage to plants at all, but they are in there - just sayin.)

If my LFS did have a little variety, and healthier looking plants I'd undoubtedly jump to buy from them. I haven't had much luck buying from out of country plant vendors, and actually only received one plant (out of five) thus far. Kind of dissappointed, but with the lamp being off almost all of the time due to the heat eminating from the bulbs - it's probably for the best there are no live plants in there.

Curious, in your tank in the LFS, would you let them stock fish in there as well? Would you plan on supplying the tank? I would also assume you would care for the plants within your home or at the nursery, and distribute them yourself, and stock the tanks? (that could actually be a fun job... visiting pet stores all day... )
