food? various veggies.. and algae chips.

add 1 or 2 fish into the tank (a guppy or molly). They do better than in a snail only tank.

There's an article in the Puffer Library.

Higher temps and good water quality will make them breed faster.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

I just got rid of mine, because my puffers refuse to eat them.

You only need a few snails to start, I had 20, but that many it's not needed. I had no gravel in the tank, and only a sponge filter and heater set to 75. After about 2 weeks I had dozens of egg sacs and a month later hundreds of useless snails. I put about a cup of crushed coral in a mesh sack in the tank and fed them algae wafers. I never even turned the light on in the tank.

I had to do weekly water changes because the water would smell really bad from no water movement. Since I had mine in a 10 gallon tank, I did 50% water change.

That is all.

I have to agree with J-P because I have a snail-only tank and they don't seem to proliferate as quickly as the snails in my crab/shrimp tank. So I'm going to add some guppy fry to my snail tank and see if that improves the situation.
But I would advise using a small filter to keep the water clean and clear, and of course, to heat the tank. The ramshorn will do the rest. :)
