Blue Legged Hermits with GSP's
I have 2 gsp's atm and im stocking my rock in it now, its at 1.024 now. I made a base layer of just ocean rock then goona get more live rock in a few weeks to seed the other rock. Anyways question, I got 2 blue legged hermits as well and so far my puffs haven't really shown any interest "yet" lol. Anyone have these crabs with their puffs and how well do they co-exist with them??

Re: Blue Legged Hermits with GSP's
They'll get the hermits eventually. I had a giant hairy red hermit. Had them confused with lots of empty shells on the bottom. The hermit was TOUGH! Even when I'd look at him, he'd climb to the top of the rockwork & wave his big claws at me. It took about 6 months & they ate him.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

That sucks. I've tried feeding them snails but they wont touch em. I give them shrimp/prawn, bloodworms and scallops to eat along with clams/mussels in shell. I'm really hoping they dont eat em they are kinda cool lookin. They are tiny still about half an inch with shell.

Re: Blue Legged Hermits with GSP's
i accidently got a hermit crab one day. so next time i was at the pet store they had these empty decorative shells that were perfect sizes for the next couple times he would switch. i scattered them all over the tank and like PP i think they confused my GSP a little. occasionally i would find the hermit in his shell upside down on the surface so i think the GSP messed with him but i never saw it. one day there was a little piece missing from the hermits shell, he was still in there alive and well. he has even switched shells since then without being seen doing it by the puffer. the hermit makes appearances once in a while but for the most part scours the rock work and sandbed under overhangs of rocks. i wanted to get a bigger hermit but figured a bigger target = more of a chance to take him out

My Dog Faced leaves my baby hermit crab and nassarrius snails alone (as long as they don't invade his cave, otherwise he squirts water at them.) The baby hermit crab and snails can easily fit in his mouth howeverMeggyPuff25 wrote:I have 2 gsp's atm and im stocking my rock in it now, its at 1.024 now. That is cute. Im gonna be getting some more empty shells for them this weekend and I might buy a few more blue legged hermits, maybe dunnoe yet lol. My puffs just look at em and are like meh whatever and swim away lol. Im having lots of fun adding the rock atm, can't wait till its done. I was consider also getting a chocolate chip seastar once im done putting in all my rock.

My S&S centers in on nassarrius snails in seconds. He starts using his fins to blow him over and just slurps them up. Haven't tried crabs myself. I keep them in the reef tank.Ajepalmer wrote:My Dog Faced leaves my baby hermit crab and nassarrius snails alone (as long as they don't invade his cave, otherwise he squirts water at them.)
