I wouldn't waste your $$$ on phosphate/nitrate remover. Just use vitamin C: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13501.
How about starting a tank build in Marine Tanks?

I purchased a Nitrate remover and was sort of scolded for it. Nitrate is very measurable and it is the indicator of how healthy / unhealthy your tank is. Without that number.. you are shooting blind.
Read the second last paragraph.

RTR WROTE:
We assume that the build-up of most pollutants is proportional to that of nitrate. Not that they are all equal, but that the measure of one at least indicates the presence and significance of the others. If you do water changes in an un-planted tank sufficient to keep nitrate titer low, you have to assume that you are reducing the other pollutants in the same proportion. So nitrate is a valuable guide to water quality. Yes, it is a pollutant. But we can test for it. That makes it our guide.

Ah now that makes sense! I'm just used to the zero nutrates and phosphates way of thinking for reef keeping?
Thanks for the links. I'll have a good read up. I'll certainly start a tank diary when it gets to that stag. Next weekend if all goes according to plan

Re: I am so naughty!
Just a quick update....the new tank finally got delivered to me last night which means I can move the goldies over this weeekend and start the Canthigaster Cove
I will be starting a new marine diary for this one, but I am so excited...my LFS are getting in some small Tobys of different kinds so we can see which may be ok with each other together in the same tank at the shop prior to me getting them home. They really go out of their way to accomodate my ideas and thoughts and come up with some brilliant ideas themselves
