Snail tank tankmates?

You are right, the brown ones that look similar to a pin wheel are ramshorn, the easiest to breed and are fast-growing. Pond snails tend to be darker and similar in shape to a football (American football that is), and the cone-shaped ones are most likely Malaysian trumpet snails - and you should not feed them to your puffers due to the hardness of their shell.

i gave abe my fahaka one of the larger ramshorns that came last week
it had a brittle flaky shell that i thought he could crush easily enough
lazy sod just kept pecking at it
so i was fed up waiting, and lifted the snail out, and slightly crushed the shell with my fingernail against the glass
yuk, i was near sick lol
snail fell back in the tank, and abe ate it then

Thanks PPG! Come to think of it I also do have a few pond snails that look like little tiny dark footballs, I honestly forgot about those So get rid of the Malaysian trumpet snails then, since they're not good puffer food and I don't really have much other use for them.

Also to go along with Purple's question then, is there any reason not to have a few fish in a snail tank?

You can have anything you want in your snail tank, as long as you've got a heater and filter in there. I have a small tank with a crab and some shrimp, and I'm starting to have quite alot of ramshorn in there -- actually more snails in my shrimp tank than is in the snail tank right now.

Strange, lol. Do you use the snails from the tank with the shrimps for your puffers too?

Oh yeah, I use any snails I can find .... got alot of hungry puffers to feed!

From the list under your name it sure looks like you have a good amount of hungry cuties to feed I sure can't wait till I can have as many as you do!!

do shrimp or crabs eat snail eggs?
i currently lookin to upgrade my snail tank
and would be nice to have a variety of things in it
maybe a guppy or something similar as well

I have 3 red crabs in with my shrimp and if the crabs eat the shrimp, I can't tell it because they breed that fast, and I've got loads of shrimp. I don't think either the crabs or the shrimp bother the snails, because I seem to have more snails, and babies at that, in my crab/shrimp tank than I do in my proper snail tank. I've just added some guppy fry to my snail tank with the hopes that maybe they would stimulate the snails to proliferate.

And Savvy, I will admit that even with as much work as it actually is, it is very rewarding.
