Finally got my dog

Okay before people start tearing me a new one. I am getting a large 150-220 next month for the little guy. He is only 3-4 inches and adorable. He has turned the small cave in my live rock into HIS nesting spot. He goes in there and clears out the sand and lays there squirting water at anything that blows in. He ate a couple ghost shrimp that wandered in that he was leaving alone around the tank. Very possessive haha. I already talked to my wife, she says this paycheck we're getting the stand and next paycheck we're getting the tank. I have been going to Petco every friday and sometimes Sunday for a month to check on this little guy and he hadn't sold so I finally decided I would get him.

Thank you. He is stressed from the new tank a little making a little extra slime coat. All the sand is sticking to him making him look extra goofy while he digs and rolls

I didn't notice this was in the marine puffer section and fully expected to see a puppy .... but what a cutie your little guy is. I bet the fact that he's so tiny makes him even more adorable.

I love dogfaces. There's one at the LFS that's for sale at $260, it's adorable. I think it's the only healthy puffer they've ever stocked.

IMO, most LFS don't really know how to keep puffers. Why so much? Aren't they usually like $40?

lol 260 does sound expensive. I got mine for like $10 originally $45 but my wife had petco coupons. Trust me if you shop for pet stuff Petco is the way to go with their petco pals points or whatever. I was shocked when my entire purchase for $70 came down to $28. Pays to buy dog food and dog treats/toys there now. Plus only LFS that sells frozen blood worms that i've seen.

Mine tries to house anemones on a single t5 bulb and they always look dead. Marine predators i've seen there like puffers, triggers, and groupers need more than brine shrimp and krill. I'm sure that is all they feed them. I try to not buy from there but i will admit i have purchased a dog toy recently. Your puffer is cool tho. I was going to get a dogface but ended up with a S&S. I assumed they were similar but just looking at your pictures, it seems to me that they do even act differently. I've never seen mine roll around in the sand like that. Stuff does stick to him like you said tho.

like what kind? They may not have large enough tanks for some species but they seem to keep babies and not adults. Also with their popularity the fish seem to sell quick enough. They have lots of food supplied to keep all of the fish happily fed and provide pamphlets with info for all the fish. I see more fish die at other LFS's with hobbyists than I do petco... And I am speaking on going their regularly not just them taking out dead fish.

It probably just depends on your area, but big chain stores do tend to mistreat what they believe to be "merchandise". Aje any place that considers itself hobbyist run and has species it cant take care of isn't really hobbyist, perhaps the store clerk is but whomever is ordering the stock obviously is not, that or the supplier is bad.
