My New Guys

Post by SilasMortimer »

First off, let me say that I'm very satisfied with ThatFishPlace and will be ordering live fish from them again. I got some beautiful fish, none of them malnourished or in any other way injured.

In the order, I got three puffers:

One male dwarf puffer. He took to Eenie immediately and she warmed up to him soon after. (I'm hoping there's a love connection there.) Meenie, the biggest one, but oddly shyest, doesn't know what to make of him yet, but she's not too aggressive and I'm sure she'll get used to him. He is completely uninterested in the otocinclus but is as personable as Eenie. He had little fear of me from the beginning and lost what he had when he saw Eenie coming up to me freely. His name, of course, is Moe.

One SAP, named PPG (I'll let you guess what that stands for). To make sure he'd be good with a community, I quarantined him with the non-puffers that were going in the same tank as he. He did well there and is doing excellently in the new tank. One really good thing about him is that he is as tiny as the dwarf puffer I got, which is awesome because that means I'll have him longer if all goes well (knock on head). The two rainbows in the tank were as curious and friendly as most rainbows have been in my experience, which I think helped him settle in. At first, the black skirt tetras were stupid and would chase him if he came near. Well, now that he's comfortable, they're regretting it, lol. I was planning to move the rainbows to another tank as they're the only non-South American fish in that tank, but I'm leaving them in for the reason mentioned above. I was going to move the black skirts, as well, for obvious reasons, but thus far, PPG only chases them lazily and they're too fast for him. (Don't know why I'm using "he".) I'll have to see how things go as he gets older. Oh! And one more thing. As soon as I put him in, he started after the nerite eggs on the walls of the aquarium. This is excellent as they're hard and will do well for his beak. He also ignores the big snails. I dropped some smaller ones in, but thus far, I don't know if he's gotten them or not. I guess I'll find out when I get an explosion of pest snails.

And finally, my new irrubesco (as seen in my avatar, taken by a really crappy camera) went straight into her tank, since it was set up and she's the only one. She's a bit shy, but not to the point where she hides when I'm near. I'm still trying to find a name that suits her. She was the biggest that I got, almost fully grown, I'm thinking.

So there's my news.

Soitainly. Here is their main page:

https://www.thatpetplace.com/

And their puffer category under aquarium livestock:

They appear to be out of fahakas right now, sadly.

Are you getting more SAPs soon? Have you read the article in the Library about the importance of keeping them in schools?
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Absolutely. That was basically a test order. I only ordered fish over the Internet once before, a big batch order with a few local aquarists, and the experience was bad, so I didn't want to get too much this time. However, the beginning of next month, I'll be getting a couple more, along with a few others.

I've never heard that... Is this a TPF joke that I missed?

lol... Actually, I heard it in the movie "Friday". One of the characters was bogarting (taking too long with) a joint. So the other character said, "Puff, puff, GIVE! Puff, puff, GIVE!"

I know, it's terrible.
