Marine GSP tank mates

Post by Pufferfish88 »

I have been slowing raising my SG for a few months with my GSP and I am looking for some marine fish I could have with him in a 55 gallon tank. I have read tomato clowns could be ok but what else would work?

Mine is with two mollies at the moment in mid brackish water. I was planning on moving them back to my fw tank once I got to full salt so I could add some other colorful fish such as clowns but what else? That eel would be too large for me haha.

Mollies are perfectly fine in marine but my GSPs ate them. Try a school of damselfish or a tomato clownfish.

1 tomato clown or can I have 2? Also do they need an anemone to host?

They do not need an anemone to host. They grow quite large, almost as large as your GSP, so I'd go with a single clown in there.

Ok maybe I will put the mollies in the fw tank later and put a male and a female tomato clown in with my puffer.

Other than:
Clowns
Mollies
Damsels

What else could be a good tank mate(s) in a 55 gallong aquarium?

I kept a yellow tang with my gsp shortly. Sadly it was killed by my anemone. Not sure thou but I think they grow too big for a 55g. Maybe some domino damsels

Minimum tank size for an adult tang is 90g.

Yea the only other things I have with my GSP are a large mexican turbo snail and about 5 astria snails and about 20 hermit crabs. So far none have been eaten. I did add some switching shells for the hermits to cuz i hear theyll kill eachother for the larger shells as they grow. You could also attempt some soft corals too. I got a few mushrooms, zoanthids, finger leather, feather dusters and a Long tentacle anemone the GSP all leave alone. If you do try feathers make sure the whole tube is covered. I caught mine trying to nibble it. now its covered so only the feathers extend out and they leave that alone now.
