Im going Fahaka

Post by lilacamy931 »

Welll I got a 100g in place and thought why not? Have black sand in place and just planted up with mixture of live and silk plants as follows, bogwood to the right and fake tree root to the left. Was thinking of adding a lengthy bit of bogwood down the middle but what do you guys think?

One thing I do need to ask. The tank came with a 300w heater and it seems to be working but working too well..Had the heater set at 77F then 74F but the tank comtinues to read around a steady 80F mark..unsure what to do?

my tank is about 78/80.
ive a 300w heater in my tank as well
i think with the weather getting warmer, it affects temp as well in tank
ur in UK like me.
spose steady is better than it going up and down.
ive turned my down last night, and im gona turn it down a notch again until it comes down just slightly
spose trial and error!

Well checking now, the temp is at 82.5F so it has gone up even further since this morning, I have turned heater off for moment is this sensible to see whether it is rising due to the heater or not? Thanks for the advice lesleyanndunn xx

Looks wonderful, although expect the puffer to redecorate. How are you cycling?

Thank you! There are definate plans to get a lengthy bit of bogwood in there and the puffer can have the joint how they like :) I have currently got two mature filters (internal) running on the tank with a large shoal of tetras keeping the media alive (though understand that these dont compare to puff bioload). Im awaiting new parts for the external as the pipes were so clogged the flow was extremely minimal. When it does arrive I will run the internals and external until the external has been cycled enough (along with more mature media inside the external) to run the external and probably one of the internals as it is an aquaone cf 1000 and think this is only up to 250 litres. Hope this sounds ok!

My main concern is this blooming heater, hoping to swing by LFS tomorrow and perhaps get a new heater.. :?

Sounds like your heater is bad, unless the room is 80 degrees most the time, and if you got the heater used I would replace it, regardless.

Well good news, have managed to get a new heater today and also spray bar and new pieces for the filter. So new heater in as really wasnt happy with it. The spray bar I have got is in two part tubing to give a choice on length. How are fahakas with a lengthy spray bar along the back to help circulate the water better?

i had one of these but couldnt use it as i have internal background, and nothing to stick the tubing too
but it did give good surface agitation.
hows your temp? has it stabilised with the new heater?
better being safe than sorry with a new one.
i know from experience!

Well we got the external filter working (flooding twice!) but then got a little cold footed after the second time of flooding so thinking of begging a LFS guy who delivered it to come round and help! Mainly due to a noisy part and also the fact the spray isnt so strong (though I have it under the surface hopefully right... lol).

The new heater is working much better, not warm water, trying two digital heaters to check the water over the next day or so but it already seems much more stabile.

Thanks for that hon :) Hope you didnt have anything too bad happen with heater going wrong x
