I am a big fan of the 45 gallon tank. Same footprint as the 30, but way more water, and the extra height makes it a very attractive display, especially for salt water, where the lighting graduating downward over the rock is gorgeous. Towers of live rock with huge expanses behind them give puffers plenty of space to explore for food, and they won't get bored of searching, ever, once you get some good pods going.

Honestly, one reason I'm loving marine for my GSPs is that lots of pods on lots of LR is the single best way to keep your puffer from being bored; it can do what it does in the wild, be ever-searching and ever-eating.

If you run a 45 with say a 29 under it for a sump(will add 20 gallons of water), would probably be no problem keeping a clown in there too, and the entire thing takes up no more floor space than your 30 does now.

well firefish adn damsel are off the list. and i think it wont be the permanent home for the GSP. i think i am gonna be looking for him another 30 gallon for when he grows bigger. but for now just have a few other fish in there to give a little bit more color.

why move him from a tank to another tank if its the same size? that would basically be stressing him out for no reason and no reward for him(a bigger tank). i started with a 29 for my GSP and upgraded to a 75. made me wish i just sucked it up and went with the bigger setup from the start.

I am getting this 50 gal saltwater tank w/30 gallon sump and all the fixings tomorrow! Now the problem is where am I going to put it...but I could not pass up this deal. If anything, I can store it until I can set it up.

Much better idea to go bigger. I think thou the blue damsels the one with yellow tails do just fine thou. They are aggressive and hold there own with gsp. I have two with my two gsp. It's a sumped 55 and I'm just made it full SW about 1.5 months ago and already want it to be a bigger tank. Good deal ya found Also have two maroon clowns and a small yellow tang. And a few soft corals you'll be able to do much more with that tank. Idk if it just my GSP or just rare but my GSP leave my SW snails and hermits alone. Not even pecking them good luck with the new setup. Show it off when it's done please.

haha once my GSP found out i had nassarius snails in my sand he started digging once in a while to try and find one. i find the 1 hermit crab i have(gotten by accident) turned upside down and one time i saw a piece missing out of his shell. he does a good job hiding for the most part though.

lol I was looking into getting nassarius snails. For some reason, I thought they were saltwater though...

Edit - They are saltwater, I just presumed your GSP wasn't marine for some reason. I apologize

its cool. i find random shells empty laying around. i think he diminished my number of them to about 6. the funny thing about it is i put them directly into the sand because i knew he would want them. one day one surfaced and was spotted, the rest is history
