coraline theory?.

so a friend of mine is taking his beauty of a reef tank down, and he has a massive purple mushroom looking soft coral thing (20 inches wide) to give me. obviously my triggers will annihilate this but i had an idea of what to do with it.
put it in a blender!.
my theory is if i blend up this specimen turn off my skimmer an circulation .. dump the blended mess in the tank it should propagate to all my rock,?., am i wrong or does this sound feasible.
my live rock is starting to fill in alot but theres so damn much of it i want to speed things up lol.

IMO, you will be dumping a bunch of muck in your tank and what does survive will grow to 20" as well. If many survive, they will cover everything. I don't think i like the idea. I wouldn't plan on using that blender for my family after that either. No magic options to speed up your tank and what about coraline?

Any idea on what exactly it is? Elephant ear mushroom (Rhodactis mussoides)? Maybe a carpet anemone?

Blender would be a bad idea.

i dont see how it could be a bad thing as people scrape corals to try and create new do they not?. im just thinking on a bigger scale.

Thats a montipora cap, not a softy, its a SPS, one of the easier SPS, but still needs high light and VERY clean water with proper amounts of calc/alk/mag



Mushrooms are fragged by cutting through the mouth (center), if you dont it wont survive. That montipora you posted can be chipped apart and fraged into small pieces about the size of a quarter. Do a google search on fraging corals, there are many how to vids and articles.

i opted for this method since his tank was going to part out i took all his coraline scrapings and did it similiar to what ya see in pics. made my tank really cloudy but im guessing it will work, at any rate if it dosent /shrug it gave me something to do on a saturday.





also he had this kickn on some rock so i snagged it up not sure what it is?.

I don't understand. Are you chopping up a mushroom or coraline? Either way, it sounds like nonsense.

i opted out of chopping up the montipora and did up the coraline, the goal is to seed the coraline on the live rock, perhaps it is nonsense.... perhaps its not.
I guess time will tell.

That is a sea squirt. Non-photosynthetic filter feeder, difficult to keep alive.
