read that .... my pleco came close it lasted 15+ years and ended up being a hand me down 3 times! I got the call last fall that it had died.

I cannot imagine that the change would be too bad as long as the fish was given "preparatory" water changes progressing slowly up to 80% daily before the move. His conditions indicate he would enjoy better water quality.
