figure 8 rescue

Post by Keith29g »

Couldn't help it he was covered in white fluff.

So I've got petrie in my 29 gallon alone and its been 5 days in the previously cycled tank. My question is he doesent seem very happy, probably that white stuff? It doesnt look like ick it is a full coating of white fluffyness,? Any ideas on how to get rid of it? He is eating and water peramiters are all perfect. Also ive been adding three tea spoons of marine salt every other day, pre mixed of course.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I saw the photo but didn't see the "white fluff"

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but fish have a slime coat and sometimes under stress the produce more slime than at other times:

A) this is the slime coat with an accumulation junk from the tank
B) you are looking at a fungus in the water.

I don't know enough about them to offer an answer but we can work to narrow the field ;)

I'm hanging in there. The parents are still her so they are chewing into my online time (Grrrrr)

PM Myaj, Nick or Dadof4, they can advise on treatment.

How's that reverse flow working? It should help keep that water crystal clear :)

Oh, poor little guy! I hope you can straighten him out.

I'm not sure what the white fluff is. It could be the stress coat as J-P mentioned or maybe fungus, though I don't see much either. It doesn't look like typical fungus that I've seen in pics and at the big box stores, though I'm not a disease expert by any means.

His belly is rather sunken, though. This could be from a poor diet whereever he was or it could be from parasites. If you can get Gel Tek Ultra Cure Px, that would be good. I soak the food in the med for at least 20 minutes prior to feeding, but otherwise, I follow the rest of the directions. If you can see any parasites coming out of him, I would also get a tank treatment like Jungle Cure fizz tabs for parasites to make sure those are killed and do not reinfect him.
