PH question in brackish tank
My F8s have been happily living in their 30-long. Tank is 9 months old. Very stable. It's at 1.008. A few days ago, I added crushed coral- to buffer and to fill out the gravel that's gone missing over the months. I got the high PH kit and it tested 8. Is this okay? I figured the crushed coral was okay with my SG.

PH of 8 is nigh-on perfect, I wouldn't like to take it over 8.4 though.
I know that there is some advice that you can take a F8 to about SG1.010 at 25DegC but they can live perfectly happy at a much lower salinity - why do you go so high?

They seem happiest around 1.008. The tank stays at 80F nearly perfectly.

Don't worry about pH. The fish will adjust to a stable pH, it's worse to try to correct it and cause pH swings. Once that starts to move it can be come a dangerous roller coaster.
"Darwin swings...annnnnnd a miss. Boy Jim, Chuck's suffered at the plate tonight. He's 0 for 3 and I'm not sure he's recovered from that shoulder pull a few weeks ago. I'll bet the front office is re-thinking that contract."

Agreed, generally fishes can adapt to lower or higher PH levels than they would normally encounter in in the wild.Dadof4 wrote:Don't worry about pH.
