fixated puffer

I have 2 GSP's in a 55 gallon tank, so they have lots of room, does anyone know why they become fixated, what i mean is one of the puffers swims in the same spot of the tank all day and all night, sliding his nose up and down the glass, non stop, well almost, if there is food he chows and then goes back to the spot.

is this normal?!?

My GSP will do that in between hunting around for food. Its in the top back rightside of the tank. There is nothing other then woodgrain of the side of a shelf to look at. His tank is heavely "fake" planted and lots of crawl throughs aswell. And the last one I had did the same thing too just in his deferent little spot. But they both dont do it for very long then go back to hunting around and nipping at stuff. So i am beginning to think this is normal. Cant wait to see what other people say.

Sounds like he's bored! Any full tank pictures? How much decor is in there?
Add more decor, or if there's already a ton in there rearrange it all and give them a new layout to explore You could always throw in a few ghost shrimp for them to chase around too.

Ok just caught on to the all day all night thing it slipped my mind when i was posting. How is your tank decorated. And you might want to move some stuff around to get him enterested in exploring. One thing i will do is get some frozen blood worms (do this like the day b4 a water change though) thaw them out and let them go free in the tank. They will land every where and he will have to go exploring for dinner.

my GSP doesnt really pace too much anymore. whenever he sees something outside of the tank that catches his attention he tries to look and figure out what is going on so hes always just sitting at the top of the tank swimming around and would stop to watch us. my spotted sharpnose will pace all day and all night though. i switch up the decor every couple weeks but i just cant seem to please him :/

The decor is very light for now, 1 tall plant, 2 small plants, 1 big rock, 1 small coral, 1 small hut and a background. i have pictures of my tank up now, its a work in progress, they LOVE chasing ghost shrimp. ill keep trying to rearrange and add stuff, maybe something new will help him out
