I bought this guy about 3 weeks ago and have been under the impression he was a turgidus but then tonight i was going through the puffer pedia and i looked at the abei and he looks just like mine! Do i have an Abei? Or do i have aTurgidus? Or am i totally off?

Colour and length of snout are a little off to be an Abei. These targets can be the worst to ID as theyre all so close.

The first photo looks just like the turgidus I used to have ..... but I agree with Hilly, they can be a nightmare to identify. I've bought target puffers 3 different times and each time they ended up being something completely different from what I was sold!

Colouration does match Turgidus rather than Cochinchinensis.

I'm hoping to get a Fang's this week and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't go all that distance only to find out that it's an Abei or a turgidus. I've been wanting one for so long, and I shall be taking my Aqualog book with me to help with ID.

Most of the experts here finally agreed that my Frankie is a turgidus. He was on black sand and was much darker, but I changed his tank out to a light natural gravel last weekend and now he could be a twin to yours...

I would guess Turgidus, they've been popping up everywhere lately

The nose compared to the size of the eyes is not like you find in an abei. I would guess a turgidus or a cochinchinensis.

omg a third choice of what he could be? lol The way they look i think they are all just variations of the same species lol
but it seems like more people are leaning towards turgidus
