fahaka red stripes

Post by we_tigers »

I've seen fahakas with red stripes,
mine being one of them.

Is this an age thing?
@ 4" I'm guessing it is, just wondering when these will turn black and become defined stripes all around

mine has red stripes when he has light colored sand. when he has black rocks his stripes are more blackish/dark brown, when he is mad, his stripes are dark maroon (while in sand)... so i think its based more on mood and cammoflauge... also age is probably a factor, alot of animals, including fish color up as they age and most have full colors when they reach sexual maturity.

i may be totally off by this, but its just what i have noticed

My big fella has dark grey stripes. I tried to get him to try & match some crappy maroon-colored color with the beautiful maroon stripes I see on some. All I wound up with was a 125g tank with crappy-colored coral:

i dont care what they say PP, i like your crappy colored gravel lol.

ive noticed mine shows his reds and maroons more with the sand for some reason, Kukah has beautiful red stripes... but im assuming it greatly depends on the individual fahaka. give him some time to color up a little more and maybe you will see those colors come out... correct me if im wrong, but i think i remember hearing krill improves color... am i right on that or am i just remembering something wrong? lol. something tells me ive heard that somewhere... you may want to try it, but dont let him get hooked on them... its like fahaka candy :D

I've noticed that Obie's colour changes quite a bit. Sometimes his stripes are dark and red, and other times they are a very light pastel pink. I think it depends on his mood. He seems to go dark when he's hunting snails, or when I'm giving him food.

It varies from specimen to specimen but if you're lucky as he gets big he should have some nice prominent stripes running down him.

Yeah I've got silica in that tank. It looks good, but it is on the heavier side of maintenance work.

When I picked him up he was VERY black - tank had black gravel. Some people jones for this, but I like the lighter substrate better because my background is painted black.

I do notice that he changes his colours throughout the day as well - when he's up against the glass dancing he's light.
When I put my hand in there for cleaning, he gets dark. Should've seen him yesterday when I put the syphon in for WC - darkest I've ever seen him in my tank
