are clams ok for a tank with puffers?

Post by Marcink125 »

I'm planning to get a 55 gallon tank with a porcupine puffer and a toby puffer and a few clowns. Would clams be ok for this tank. i'm also going to have live rock.
are anemones safe from puffers. polyps, sea sponges?

I have another question, would an ehiem 2213 canister filter be good for a 55 gallon tank in addition to a aquaclear 70 filter for mechanical filtration.

what is your experience with ehiem canister filters for salt water?

55 gallons is MUCH too small for that stock list, or for even a Porc on it's own. Just the Toby and the clowns would be great in that tank though. :)
Any puffer would most likely destroy any clams in the tank. Though I've seen a great reef tank with a Toby before- it depends on the individual fish though. Puffer are notorious for munching on corals.

Those filters won't work for a saltwater tank, you'll need to get a skimmer.
This is what I used on my 55gallon SW tank when I had it set up, it worked great :)

You pretty much need a minimum 150g for a porc

thanks, maybe i'm just being to ambitious I don't want to deprive any fish of a rightful home.. but a 55 gallon tank with a toby puffer and some clowns would be pretty sweet.

i know that a lot of people feed their larger puffers small clams as treats. I give my small puffer some raw clam meat sometimes, so my bet is they'd eat it. could be worth a try though. if it works cool. if not, then your puffer got a snack :D
