HELP! Convict Cichlid eggs!!

Post by Polkadotpuffer »

I have only one female convict cichlid and was very surprised to see that she was really fat all of a sudden and then layed some eggs in the corner of the tank! She has never had another cichlid to partner up with and I have had her for about 3 months? Could she have been pregnant from the fish shop for 3 months? Not sure how long they are pregnant for? Also will these eggs eventually die coz im pretty sure they need to be fertilized before they can hatch? Has she bred with another different fish perhaps? I have a gourami, angel fish, shrimp, loach and baby fire eel in the tank. Please help! Not sure what to do? She is guarding them should i leave her to it?

I lay an unfertilized egg every month. ;)
