:( So sad...

Post by Pandora114 »

Well we took Pepsi down to Naniamo yesterday. He's now at Age of Aquariums. He didn't really enjoy the trip much.

First the traumatic catch..he didn't do the net thing well so I took a tupperware bowl and managed to get him against the glass and then slid the lid down and then I put him in the Betta tank (a 1.5gal acrylic tank with a lid) that was cleaned out (with viniger and water of course) and I put a few of the smaller plastic plants in with him too just to give him a little bit of nitrifying bacteria for the ammonia he'll put out while stressed.

So off for the 1.5hr drive. During the whole net fiasco he rubbed some of the color off of him. (who knew puffers were like butterflies! lol) and during the trip he swallowed some air :( so when we got to the store he wasn't looking too good. the guy burped him and started acclimatizing him to full marine (he wasn't far off...at 1.018) and he started to come to.

I hope my little guy made it. Well not so little. Store owner said he was one of the biggest GSP's he's seen. and other than the color rubbing off of him he looked pretty healthy.

I sure missed his happy face greeting me at the tank this morning while I went to get my coffee. I hope we have enough notice for my next move so we can have someone hold our puff while we set up at the destination. (even driving with the already cycled media and flowing water over it/feeding it every night on the way to our new place)

They put him in a temporary holding tank to de-stress him, and the big 900's were being treated with copper so the guy was gonna wait till the levels were low enough to put him in his new happy home

Yep, one of the SAPs does that regularly. When it spazzes it pays no regard to what's around it and won't stop. It hits the ornament, heater, intake, hands, anything. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often but it did the same thing today with the planting tongs. I was replanting and then picking up a piece of squid. It hit the tongs and I loosened my grip and it ends up between them spazzing. Voila :(
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Jilly always has a rubbed spot on her head from trying to get into tight spaces in live rock going after those 'pods.

I'm sure you miss him, but it sounds like his new place is great. The people who have him are knowledgeable and responsible and seem to care about him, and that's all we can ask, I guess.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

I think the thing I miss the most about Pepsi is how he used to get all excited whenever I even went NEAR the freezer. He knew his food came from there. he almost jumped out of the tank whenever I opened it to get our food out lol. He always thought it was for him.

thats a bummer, sorry to here you had to get rid of it, at least it is in a great spot that will take care of him. I dread the day i have to get rid of any of my fish, they are like my little kids, esp my puffers they just have so much personality.....
Too many tanks, not enough room, maybe i should just flood the basement!!
