I get my new tank tomorrow

Post by shaner »

Oh happy day, the day is finally here i get to pick up my 180 gal tank for my Fahaka Puffer tomorrow, sorry i have not posted for awhile, have been busy getting the room set up and work has been crazy......

Achmed (the Fahaka) that is what we named him, if you have seen Jeff Dunham we named him after the terrorist is doing great and loving his 55g, i moved him out to the living room and made room for the 180, I have the stand built and re-enforced the floor with two extra floor jacks and some extra tough lumber.

I decided to go with a sump, i got a 40gal breeder and will be building the sump in the next month or so, i have all the plans and have started to order the parts that i will be needing, the wife is looking at photos of the nile to get an idea of how we should aquascape, I have decided to go with a river theme for him and will be putting two Koralia's on one end of the tank and i will be setting a timer for each to have more of an ebb and flow type effect and then to mimic the nile river flow, should be interesting.....

so thats where i am at,

this is going to be awesome..... i am so stoked it is not even funny   :99bottles:
Too many tanks, not enough room, maybe i should just flood the basement!!

Congratulations bud! I love setting up a new tank. Best of luck to you and look forward to seeing the pics. If you need any help with the sump, I am by no means an expert, but I just finished a DIY sump so I may be able to help you with some advise on problems I ran into.

walter has bad gas...... :missyou:

thanks, yeah there has been many revisions on things and alot of paper has been used up, but i think i got it and you bet if i have questions i will be asking, i really dont want to come home to 180 gallons of water on the floor, that would not be cool at all......

I plan on dividing the breeder into 4 slots, intake and first bubble breaker, then heating chamber and second bubble breaker, then biomedia chamber then final bubble breaker and out pump, i will be using a 1800 gph pump, and control the output, i will have a spray bar system around three sides and then the two koralia's on the one side, should be able to get the tank to turn over 100% 8 times an hour according to all the math and equations, which of course all look good on paper, so, I will be able to test it for at least a month before i even have to aquascape it, i figure i have about 5 months to get it totally set up and ready before i really have to move Achmed over, he is about 3 inches right now and growing quick......I plan on getting it done before june 1st and test it and make the move by the end of june.....will see....

If you're doing 4 chambers, going with a 55 gallon tank might work better - they're cheaper than 40's, higher capacity, and easier to get more compartments in.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.
