Best Substrate for a Fahaka?

I've always been a fan of Black gravel, it makes everything else pop out.

I found NO information saying 'lucky bamboo' is toxic in aquaria. Maybe if your fish eat it, but that shouldn't happen with a puffer.

Apparently it is toxic to cats that gnaw on it and other house pets that do the same. I couldn't find any info on WHAT is toxic about it and how dangerous. My guess is it has a sap that is an irritant like Aloe has (aloe has very small amounts of a sap in the other layer I believe that is an irritant...ironic isn't it?) or that Poinsettias have.

I know of people all over the world that have it in aquaria and in ponds so if it was toxic to fish we'd know about it.

Just be sure to let it grow OUT of the water or else it will eventually rot and die. You can always have it grow out of a sump.

I think it's only dangerous if completely submerged. Apparently the top and an leaf or two have to get out of the water for it to have long term viability, otherwise it will rot, and the rotting is bad for fish, but it is otherwise harmless.

My Fahaka tank has a sand bottom. It's heavy sand that does not gush when you pore it in but sinks straight to the bottom (might be the same sand people use to make cement). Needs no maintenance at all.. altho I did have some blue algue problems at the start, but after some research this was caused by a wrong type of lighting that i used to simulate dusk.
