Hey All,
If I wanted to convert my 180 Gallon to SW, can I just use instant Ocean?, and use my reg filters.. are is it alot more complcated then that?

You'd have to raise the SG slowly (.002ppm /week)... This is so your beneficial bacteria survives. Unless you can simply get more bacteria from a RELIABLE SOURCE, you should raise it that way.

I am keeping him, this is all Hypotahetical, I just see this HUGE tank with only one small fish in it, I know he will need it some day, but it looks so big for just him right now. I was thinking of putting him in a smaller tank 90 or so, and use the 180 for more fish, my girls love the Oscars cause they move, as amazing as Samson is, hes not a very active fish, so the girls barly notice him unless he is feeding.
IDK like I said this is just something I am mualing over..
I saw some really cool SW fish today, and they had a toby puffer, its was so cool I just wish I had unlimited room and money LOL!

You wouldn't use the FW filters on a SW tank. Live rock/sand & a protein skimmer, is what is used to filter SW.

What are sumps for then? I have watched a bunch on Youtube, and I have seen these huge sumps with live rock or even veggies in them? is this a live filteration????

You are confusing a sump with a refugium. Sumps are extra water volume outside the tank, to store your heater/skimmer in. A fuge can be added into the sump (if large enough), or plumbed separately. In the fuge is kept macroalgae to help filter out extra waste. Mine are plumbed seperately.

I have been doing alot of reading last couple days, I am staying with FW for this tank, Samson is fine in it.. I do think when we move, i am gonna buy a diff tank, depending on how much room i have, this tank is all 1" thick glass, its Frikkin heavy, Took 4 PPL just to get it on a stand
That isn't helping with myweight issue.
