So I got one of these w/o an instruction manual via craigslist and have no idea how to use it! Help please!!

You need to get some calibration solution to calibrate it. Adjust the level to what the solution is supposed to be by putting some on the glass, close the top glass over it & look into the brightest light you can find. You can adjust the focus, by turning the eyepiece. If you can't get calibration solution, use RO water.
What did you pay for that one? I'm selling a few for $25 ea.

Oh, DO NOT use the sun for the brightest light. These things are NOT UV shielded!

I got it along with an entire water chemistry set and a while bunch of odds and ends for $20 off craigslist. The people were moving and taking down their SW tank.

Reverse Osmosis: has no salts, chemicals, etc. in there.

To them? Nothing. However, direct sunlight causes radiation damage to your eyes each time, and it's much worse if it's focused directly onto your eyeball with an optical device.

Indirect sunlight should be OK... just don't use a bright sunny sky.

add a drop or 2 and use the dials to set the calibration at 0 (blue line for the one i use.)
