How do i tell the differance between a Nigroviridis and a fl
I have been keeping fresh and brackish fish for more than twenty years but the only puffer i have kept have been the figure 8s. I recently purchased two 6" puffer sold as green spotted but how do i tell for sure?
Have a look through the gallery. You mean fluviliatis yes?
Gsps (nigroviridis) have a flourescent green patch on the top of their head, and the top of their bodies are greeny-yellow with distinct black spots and a white belly. The fluviliatis (Ceylon) has dark patches on a muddier looking background and this colouring is on the belly as well, but not as pronounced as on it's back.
Hope that helps. Post us a pic if you like.
What's the tank set-up?
Pami.

Basically the T. Fluvalatis looks like a figure 8 from the top and the sides have GSP patterns. The pectorials of the T. Fluvalatis is usually orange to a brown, as GSPs are clear.

Thanks, my setup is a 40 g breeder tank. sp at 1.01 temp at 80. There is 1 @ 4" and 1 @ 5". they are shairing the tank with Gymnothorax tile (app 14") along with assorted feeder guppies and ghost shrimp. everyone gets fed everyother day with thawed white shrimp and occassional treats of crayfish. Everyone is also hand fed, a trait the moray picked up from the puffers. don't know how to post a pic.
Sorry, sp @ 1.006 (air bubble on the arm) and size @ 5" & 6" I got the fish at that size from LFS four days ago, they were held in brackish tank added the to the moray tank. I change about 10% of the water every two days (low stocked 75 gallon reef tank as well, use some of the water from that). The fish ate for the moment i put them in the tank and seem to be content. The moray has completely lost its shyness with the addition of the puffers. loved the price (under $20 a piece)
